"WE WANT JUSTICE" has become the slogan of the people's movement against sexual oppression in contemporary West Bengal, in India. On 9th August, 2024, at night a junior doctor was brutally raped and murdered at R.G.Kar Medical College and Hospital , a government medical college named after Dr.Radha Gobindo Kar, an idealist doctor who founded it in 1918. It was the first privately sponsored medical institute in India. Dr. Kar gave his life's savings to this institute. But in contemporary West Bengal government hospitals have become vice dens and anyone who protests against corrupt practice of officials risks being murdered. But the long suffering people , are protesting against this rape cum murder. On the night of 14th August, just on the eve of India's Independence Day (15th August)women took to the streets to demand justice. In the wee hours of the morning of 15th August, vandals indulged in a wild orgy of destruction right before the police. Possibly their intention was to destroy all evidence of the crime. Academics, artists, medicos, lawyers , players, students - people from all walks of life are organizing protests despite state oppression. The case is now being investigated by Central Bureau of Investigation. The matter has also been taken up by the Calcutta High Court and the Supreme Court. I intend to post "We Want Justice" by Mr.Killa on my Facebook page. Hopefully, it will inspire people.
